Q&A with India*Romeo by Jennicakes
Where's your favorite place to stash a sachet?
Good question! There are the obvious places like in a linen closet, or in a dresser drawer, or in a closet. But I like to keep one in my desk at work. It's nice to get a whiff of something nice in an unexpected place!
What's the best thing about working with vintage fabrics?
I love recycling pre-loved materials and using fabric that has a history. A lot of my vintage fabric comes from my boyfriend's Granny Blake. She made all of his mom's clothes when she was growing up, and she made a living as a seamstress. It's really cool to know that her fabric and notions get to live another life through my designs.
Is there a smell you find to be particularly "homey"?
Rice and beans. It's weird, I know! My mom didn't do much baking when I was growing up, so the yummy smells in our kitchen didn't come from cookies or cake, but from the Puerto Rican food she and my dad cooked for dinner every night. We had beans and rice several times a week, and their recipe makes the most delicious and fabulous smelling pot of beans you've ever smelled. Just thinking about it makes me hungry!
