At Green Chair Press I combine my love of type, poetry and old cranky machines to create and print broadsides, fine press books, coasters and ephemera. I use an 1890s Chandler and Price platen press, printing from handset type and photopolymer plates.

Your business name, Green Chair Press, sounds so homey. Are you generally drawn to making items that will beautify the home?
Yes. As kids, my sisters and I made lots of home decorations and that's carried over, for all 3 of us, into adulthood. We all seem to emphasize our dining rooms, with homemade place mats and carefully selected plate and flatware collections. This love of all thing dining is one reason I was drawn to start making coasters.
Why are coasters such a big part of your work?
For me, coasters are functional art. They can make everything from a beach picnic to an elegant dinner that much more fun. And they are wonderfully fun to letterpress print!
What's your favorite item in your home?
That's a hard one. It's a toss up between my actual green chair (yes, I have one and it looks like the one in my logo) and my perfume bottle collection. In my work room I have a little nook with shelves that houses my perfume bottles, some favorite books, and artwork by my Dad. When I moved last year, they were the first things I unpacked. Some of the bottles are figurines (a kewpie doll, a skunk, a glass pipe) and others are more traditional beautiful bottles. They all make me smile.
