In college I studied abroad in Germany and Japan, where I fell in love with ceramics. Then, I had my son and fell in love with him too, which distracted me from the whole 'I want to be a self-sufficient artist' thing for awhile, but now after a couple of years working in the mental health field and doing AmeriCorps VISTA I have my very first studio. The youngest of seven children in a family of artists, I have always been interested in creating art. This line of jewelry evolved as a way to share the beauty of antique buttons as miniature pieces of art while turning them into modern conversation piece jewelry. This became a treasure hunt to find lovely & unique buttons from around the world. Most have traveled from Europe & old estates of the eastern United States. Each button is lovingly cleaned to reveal its former glory and patina & the majority are over 100 years old. Plastic and modern buttons are not used.

I'm a 20-something Children's Librarian (by day) and proud to admit that my hand up a puppet's butt is a beautiful thing. Seriously my puppet shows are Oscar worthy! I can leap the book stacks in a single bound. The dewey decimal system rocks my world and yes I do know where Waldo is! A few things I've said during a day of work: "Max Put Your Pants On, There Are No Naked Butts At Storytime!" "Hannah We Don't Lick The Books!" "No We Do Not Have Any Actual Photographs of Jesus, Ma'am" I've also uttered "On Your Booties Cuties" and "Shhhhh!" More times than I'd like to admit. Yankee Girl Designs started as a way to help me relax after a day of wrangling screaming meatloafs and it's evolved into so much more. I love working with beads and stones and ending up with something kick-ass to wear. Mixing and matching different stones has become a passion of mine.
