The Pretty Things Alchemy

The Pretty Things began as the brainchild of a special education teacher/zine writer/self-declared mad scientist over summer break 2004. Jennifer wanted to fuel her desire to create & found that outlet in making jewelry for family members & friends. Over time she took a particular liking to whipping up soaps & lip balms, which have become the primary product of the shop. She is continually adding new items to The Pretty Things as well as working on the zines Gretchen & Rocket.

Two Blue Candle Co.

After quitting their corporate jobs in Atlanta, Kathy Layne and her hubby relocated to the coast of Maine and Kathy soon began to refine her first love... candlemaking. After working for a few years in a small space off the kitchen, the pair relocated again so that she could have a larger workshop in South Florida. Kathy really and truly makes each pillar, votive, travel tin, tealight, & wax melt by hand, using only the highest quality waxes and fragrance oils. She also carries a great line of handmade soaps and bathbombs. Wouldn't you love to have a personal candlemaker?

4 Square

4square was established in November 2004 by a graphic designer who loves to craft! After finding 2 lonely sheets of print and shrink inkjet paper--it then became totally addictive! A ton of print and shrink paper was purchased and the design madness began. All designs are original and are created using an ibook G4, Adobe Illustrator and an Epson printer.
At the beginning of 2005, 4square launched it own line of sewing buttons, along with lots of new computer illustrated stationery and home decor items.

The Crafty Scientist
The Crafty Scientist was started in January 2005, and we are proud to introduce ourselves to the crafty community with this February Sampler offering! Go Sampler!
The Crafty Scientist is the all encompassing creative arm of Sleeping Hound Knits, a specialty knitwear design house started in May 2002 by Dayna Mankowski, part time pharmacist and part time biomedical researcher (The "Scientist"), and her trusty partner in craft, long haired whippet Isaac DitterMan (The "Sleeping Hound"). The love for all things crafty keeps Dayna up late at night making all sorts of creations, especially those that repurpose or recycle materials into something new (bags, scarves, toys). Craftyscientist.com is under construction, and it is being planned as a showcase for art and craft made by scientists. Items will be featured that can be made to order, and there will be some items available for purchase. Only lack of time is keeping the Scientist of Craft from stocking the shop! Goodies planned to be stocked are fun and functional lunch bags, knit wear, hand bags and totes, and the new recycled plastic messenger bag/disc golf bag. There are always new crafts being done, so the selection will vary!
The repurposed wool felted cat toy for the Sampler has been a fall project for local cat adoption shelters, including Durham/Middlefield's Cause for Paws. For a $2.00 donation, a handmade cosmic cat toy can be had that provides hours of fun for your feline! Since Christmas 2004, we have raised over $100.00! 100% of the profits go to this organization.
Heads Up Penny

Recently self-published by Cat Baldwin, "Heads Up Penny", is a robot’s narration of the ironies of daily life. Drawn in a minimalist style the comic’s main character Penny discusses topics ranging from the thrills of working in retail to the intricacies of art and the amusement of the human condition.
The comic "Heads Up Penny" began in 2001 as a bad double entendre for a zine title. Fortunately the zine was forgotten and Penny had the chance to evolve into the comic strip that it is today.
Cat Baldwin will be representing "Heads Up Penny", at the Alternative Press Expo in San Francisco this April. "Heads Up Penny", has also had the good fortune to get picked up and published as a weekly comic in the Oregon Daily Emerald, a student newspaper in Eugene, OR.
Feto Soap

Lisa Chouinard likes to melt things. Her DIY health and beauty business, Feto Soap, was born after she purchased a soap making kit from a local craft store and became hooked on making soap. Her first commercial soap, the popular (and controversial) Feto Soap contains small, colorful polymer clay fetos and has been featured in For Him Magazine in the UK, United States, and Indonesia. Feto Soap has also been in an Italian magazine, People in Groove. But Feto Soap is not just about making a statement--it's about quality, 100% DIY soaps, lotion bars, lip balms and body sprays designed, labeled, promoted--and melted--by Lisa herself. Visit her online store at www.fetosoap.com for a complete line of beauty products.

Lili La Malice

Lise is the creative force behind Lili la Malice. Always a crafter, this 20-year-old recently discovered the ancient art of felting. Seduced by the material and its infinite possibilities, Lise puts a modern spin on ages-old technique. Her creations pair cutting-edge design with old-world craftsmanship.
A resident of Reims, France, Lise is a design student. She gets lots of fresh and colorful inspiration from her job at a farmers’ market vegetable stand.

Mignonette

Mignonette is what happens when a California girl leaves Paris and moves to Brooklyn. All items are handmade with quality materials, many recycled, and 10% of every purchase goes to benefit NYC charities. Tired of watching sad French movies with waifish heroines dressed in couture, Kpoene' started crafting clothing for real-world gamines. These are clothes to wear when walking along East River Drive, not the Seine. Though you could walk there too, if you wanted. Kpoene' likes emails, gifts, and the letters 'K' and 'S'.

Pink Thread & More

Based in New York state, Pink Thread & more was born under a pile of fabric, trims, and, that's right, PINK THREAD! Here you'll find handmade items crafted from vintage, new, and recycled fabric and trims from a variety of designers with a variety of styles.
What are Pink Thread's loves? Items made from recycled materials, Milo P. Hound Dog Smith (aka Milo the Wunderhound), asparagus, baby cheeks, wool sweaters, and Leo Sayer's 'You Make Me Feel Like Dancing.'
Current obsessions that will probably turn ugly: Project Runway, black & white checkered anything, the weather channel.

The Small Object

The Small Object is the tiny manufacturing arm of me, Sarah Neuburger, who resides in Irmo, South Carolina. After spending a few years in New York City, I recently moved closer to my family and for a little more breathing space. (Ahh - that's better!) The Small Object collection currently consists of a shrinky doodle pin pack, felt flower muff hat, fill-in-the blank family tree, embroidered photo albums and invitation + stationery sets.
I design and make all the items on the website, www.thesmallobject.com, as well as make large-scale drawings, artists books, mixed media collages and other household goodies. As the individual responsible for all the gluing, sewing, cutting and drawing, I make the objects just for you - someone who appreciates the craft, good design and infusing creative items into every part of our lives and homes. (That's why I like you!)
